TAKING SCOTTISH DRUM AND BASS TO THE NEXT LEVEL

In order for the Scottish scene to keep building, I felt it could do with more events that would heighten the awareness of the music. To do so, I looked at promoting some other events out with Manga, which would hopefully get some well overdue radio coverage. This came to fruition with the set-up of Jungle Magik at Potterow, coinciding with the launch of a new Scottish radio station - Beat 106.

So I started off with a one-off event called ‘The Jungle and Drum & Bass Spectacular,’ taking place at Potterow, a brand new state-of-the-art venue built by Edinburgh University. <Flyer> <Pictures>. After that, I came up with the name Jungle Magik and started to run nights once a month at this brand new venue. Jungle Magik quickly became the sister event to Manga in the capital, and I staged some quality nights over the first few years, most notably Jungle Magik’s first birthday, featuring True Playaz’ Hype, Zinc, Pascal, and MC Fats. This night still boasts the largest attendance for a Drum & Bass event in Scotland. Check out the video from the 1st Birthday in the media section of the site. <Flyers>

In addition to Jungle Magik, I decided to organise some other events, which would further highlight and add weight to the Scottish scene. The first of these events was a Metalheadz night 'In Loving Memory Of Kemistry'. Initially, this show was a standard Metalheadz event featuring Goldie, playing his first ever gig in Edinburgh, alongside Kemistry, Storm, and Mc Justiyc. Tragically, and at a great loss to the scene, Kemistry was killed in a freak road accident a month or so before the show. After having discussions with Metalheadz, it was decided that the show would go ahead as planned, but would now be a tribute night to Kemistry, who to this day is still very sadly missed. I’ve also organised tour nights for both Metalheadz and Good Looking in Edinburgh Glasgow and Dundee over the years.
