First
and foremost I'm a DJ and although I've had a studio
for many years I’ve found it difficult to find the
time to spend in it due to DJing and event organising commitments.
However, now that the music has a respectable level
of acceptance here in the Scotland, I will have far more
time than ever to dedicate to my productions. I have been
working slowly but surely on my production over the years, to date, I’ve only released one 12”,
called Invaders, which appeared on the ‘World of
Drum and Bass’ album
on Formation. <Hear Track> <Album

In the meantime, I’ve set up a record label, Restless Natives Records (Jan 2004) with the aim of uncovering some of the worlds unknown up and coming producers in the hope that they go on to bigger and brighter things within the industry. This goal was achieved last year (2005) when I was approached by Andy C who was very interested in the tune called 'Be Mine' by DJ Samurai whom I had met whilst handing out flyers for my Jungle Magik event in Edinburgh. The tune was scheduled for release on Restless Natives but keeping with my promise to my artists I let Andy have the tune. To date I’ve put out 6 releases both on vinly and on MP3 format. The first 12 RN001 '28 Days' / 'New Encounters' was released in March 2004, and was produced by Edinburgh based DJ Kryptik. The second 12” on the label RN002 'Going Down' / 'Sundown' again was produced by DJ Kryptik. This release got a great response from some of the scene’s major players including Grooverider, DJ SS, Bryan G and Simon Bassline Smith. The third release on the label RN003 'Dayz' / 'Dayz Peshay Remix' was the debut release by DJ Samurai. The tune featured the vocal talents of Charlotte who was a student at Edinburgh University and a close friend of Samurai's. I asked Peshay to remix this tune for the b side which he did and liked so much that he asked me if he could included it on his album 'Jammin' which was released at the end of 2004. Both the original of this tune and the remix got very good support from DJS across the globe
2005 kicked of in style with me undertaking the cover mount mix cd for Knowledge magazine which featured both released and unreleased material on the label. <KnowledgeMix> <KnowledgeInterview> This subsequently coincided with the release RN004 DJ Samurai 'Bizness' / 'I Wanna Tell You' which again features the vocals of Charlotte. Then it was my third new artist to come on board the label in the form of DC Breaks for RN005 with 'Que Sera'/ 'Leave Me'. At this point I approached a number of well known producers in the scene for remixes for the label. First I contacted 1 Xtra's Sappo about doing a remix of DJ Kryptiks 'Going Down' as well as approaching young starlet Mace for a remix of DJ Samurai & Charlotte’s 'I Wanna Tell You '. Although both remixes are worth putting out you some times have to make sacrifices in order to move forward which is what I did by not putting either of these out on vinly. The reason I chose to do this was simply because I had the next release by DC Breaks 'Do You Believe ' / 'Noize Dub ' lined up. But due to an overwhelming demand by both DJ’s and record stores to release it I changed the schedule around so as to get it out as soon as possible. It was at the same time I was approached by MPK who is one of Australia’s leading Drum & Bass DJ’s who was about to do a mixed Drum & Bass compilation album called 'Winter Enchanted' for Central Station Records who are the equivalent of HMV here in the UK. He was mainly interested in taking 'Do You Believe' but also ended up taking the VIP version of DJ Samurai & Charlotte 'Dayz' and DC Breaks 'Leave Me' This was obviously a good thing for both the label and the artists in terms of promotion. RN006 was released in April 2006 and is by far the most popular release on the label and to date has sold over 2000 units which for a small independant label is very good especialy in the climate of current record sales. RN007' Emperor' / 'Horizon' is the final release from DC Breaks on my label as they have been signed up exclusively by Andy C for his sister labels Frequency and Hilite which has pleased me no end as thats the whole idea of this label.
